Dr. Richard Thompson

Biochemist and Molecular Biologist

Richard Thompson earned a B.A. in Biology at Northwestern University and the PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.  After postdoctoral training, he served at the US Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC, before joining the faculty in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.  His principal research interests include luminescence-based sensors for metal ions and calcification, and their application to problems of biological and clinical interest.
